The photograph series is composed of imaginary landscapes in a place in which the presence of nature dominates the scene, erasing any possible reference to the time: nature prevails over humanity. The project has been developed in different urban areas of London, carefully selecting the locations of shooting, where nature has been merged by humans, contained in parks or green areas.
Through a particular study of the photographic composition of the scene and perspective, using in a metaphorical way the thick foliage of trees, bushes and shrubs, nature reclaims the space that the humans have stolen to it and “chokes” buildings and other human creations, surrounds them and deconstructs them.
Looking at these photographs, we can't understand if this is a reality set in the future or in a time relatively close, as even if in this reality humankind is still present or has been "defeated" by nature in revolt after centuries of uncontrolled growth. We don’t know either if it is a hypothetical scenario in which humanity and nature have reached, at last, a balance. For sure the series leads us to think about how today our society and our economy expand their limits increasingly undervaluing and not respecting the real foundations on which it should sustain and grow.
In this dreamy reality, the thought that I want to spread is: what impact will perpetual unregulated exploitation of a precious resource, which is so deeply rooted in our existence?
The project was developed in 2011 under the supervision of Paul Halliday during my fellowship at Goldsmith College, London, UK.
