Armed with my Mamiya 7II, renowned for its exceptional image quality and versatility, I was able to immerse myself in the enchanting vistas truly. The highlands offer diverse landscapes, from majestic mountains to shimmering lochs, ancient castles to rolling hillsides blanketed in heather. The rich tapestry of colours, textures, and moods will provide ample opportunities for your analogue lens to capture the essence of this magical place.
The Magic of Analog Photography.
In the age of digital dominance, analogue photography presents a refreshing change, offering a slower and more deliberate approach to capturing images (each film roll has only 12 poses!). With each click of the shutter, I found myself fully engaged in the process, carefully considering composition, lighting, and exposure. The Mamiya 7's medium format film captures intricate details, producing rich tones and a timeless quality that digital cameras often struggle to replicate. The anticipation of waiting for the film to develop only adds to the joy and surprise when you finally hold your prints in your hands, making each photograph a fine art piece.

Beyond the allure of photography, the Scottish Highlands offer an exceptional opportunity to embark on walking trails that wind through its untamed wilderness. The Great Glen Way, West Highland Way, and the famous Isle of Skye are just a few of the countless trails that beckon adventurers. As you set foot on these paths, you'll find yourself surrounded by awe-inspiring landscapes, from mist-shrouded moors to ancient forests, cascading waterfalls to rugged coastal cliffs. The Highlands offer an escape from the chaos of modern life, allowing you to reconnect with nature's tranquillity and find solace in its vastness.
Plan your journey: Research and plan your itinerary, taking into account the walking trail you wish to explore, the best viewpoints for photography, and nearby accommodations. Be prepared for unpredictable weather conditions and pack accordingly.
Respect the environment: The Scottish Highlands are home to delicate ecosystems and diverse wildlife. Always adhere to the Leave No Trace principles, ensuring you leave the environment as pristine as you found it.
Safety first: Familiarize yourself with the trail's difficulty level and come prepared with proper hiking gear, including sturdy footwear, waterproof clothing, and a map or GPS device. Inform someone about your itinerary and carry essential supplies. In my case, due to the photographic equipment, being minimal was hardly possible and I found myself having to walk even more than 20 km a day with a 13 kg backpack on my shoulders.
Golden hours: Take advantage of the magical lighting conditions during sunrise and sunset to capture the Highlands' landscapes in their full glory. Experiment with long exposures and the interplay of light and shadows.
Engage with the locals: The Scottish people are known for their warm hospitality. Interact with the locals, immerse yourself in their culture, and seek their advice on hidden gems and lesser-known spots to explore.
